The ease of Norway

It’s beginning to feel like an obsession. First Norwegian Cruise lines. Then, of course, I flew Norwegian to Oslo to catch my super-fly ride home. I’ve already started getting Norway-promoting emails from my upcoming river cruise with Viking. I don’t mean to pick Norwegian things, in general, but I do mean to pick this airport. Inexpensive Premium class flights home mean changing in Oslo most of the time.

First, let me say that you have not experienced a glitch - I did not post one time about my trip to Sicily and Malta followed by the cruise around Italy and Greece. But I’m going to start now, before I’ve forgotten everything! Working backward for a minute because I have thoughts I must share.

Everything about having a layover in Oslo is pleasant. I stayed in the airport Best Western. Cheap for the area at $125/night. For that $125 I got a smiling check-in with all the information I needed poured into my tired ears at midnight. A truly comfortable and relatively spacious (for Europe) room with a great shower. An astounding breakfast and an easy catch of the shuttle to and from the airport for a couple of bucks. Once at the airport, everything is quiet. Busy, but still quiet. Stressless even though something has happened because the crew all took a huddle with somber faces and then every back pack was torn apart. Still, no one pushing or shoving, pleasant attitude from the agents having to paw through everyone’s things. There are comfortable seats and good food choices both inside and outside security. (So unlike Rome airport - noisy and crowded, not enough seating, nowhere to get power plug-in, seats unbelievably uncomfortable if you can get one and ONE over-crowded (but not too bad) food option. Ugh. One time I paid for the lounge here and that was really nice. This time I don’t need it, won’t be here that long and I’ve got a comfortable seat right under the gate announcement screen with a lovely cuppa at my elbow. I’m sitting across from where I bought my first edition Harry Potter books, because I was here the day they came out.

So, although I don’t visit the family I have here in Norway anymore and I don’t have free flights on this airline anymore (because daughter changed airlines but also wouldn’t piss on my head if it were on fire,) I will still take Norwegian to and from Oslo to take the Norse Atlantic dreamliner home. Non-stop all the way to Los Angeles, and the upgrade to Premium is affordable and provides wonderful benefits. I’m a fan. Of Norway, of Oslo airport and of this newly emerged from the ashes Norse Atlantic airway.
