Murano

Casa Sullo Laguna and a morning wander

I went downstairs for a banana and a coffee and had a wonderful chat with our hostess via Google translate. It doesn't work as well in all languages (Slovenian, for example) but for Italian, she just talked away into her phone and then I'd read the translation and it was very understandable. Then I would talk into my phone and it was understandable to her!  It worked out so well.

The view from our window.

Breakfast (I didn't take a picture of our lovely hostess, bad me.)

 The hallway/entranceway to our room.

The staircase from the lobby. Honestly, I just love those curtains.

Jand had a vendor to meet, so I went off on a wander for a couple of hours.

Murano is famous for its glass. So every shop just about sells glass things. I window-photo-shopped. The main purpose of my conversation with the b&b hostess was to ask her, if I only had time for one of the island's famous churches, which should I visit? She just kept insisted tutti e due! So I went to both and caught whatever glass was on view along the way. Only a couple of remarks on the following photos, they are pretty self-explanatory of this morning wander.

Look closely at the middle building if you can. Beautiful, but deteriorating, mosaid.

This guy gave me permission to photograph him, even though the sign said no photographs or video.

Terrible pics through the glass, with the reflection, but these two shots are for my Aunt Emme, the bird lover.

And a shot for my friend who is very into sailing. These are good examples of the Murano glass style, too.

This is how the 'garbage truck' works in Murano!

Weird glass tree in a small plaza. I'm thinking there's a story but I don't know what it is.

Pastries, photographed through the window with the canals and shops of Murano reflected and a couple of locals busily getting on with their early morning. I love this photo:

All glass symphony! And a few other things.
