Venice of West Texas
In 2016, during our move across the state, we met someone at some campground who told us about this amazing spring in far west Texas. We stopped in and managed a short swim before a storm chased us out. So this time I wanted to stop in the area again. It is such an anomaly in this dry, windy part of the state. The town literally has canals running through it with clean, clear spring water. About Balmorhea
While I was dog-walking this morning in my campground (I’m at a full hookup $20/night campground,) three cute little Dachsunds came running out of a long-timer camp site. Their human mom came running out, too. Lucky for me because she lives here and has a mobile dog-grooming service set up in a truck. So we were chatting and she offered to clip the dogs toenails - something I was going to try to do while I landed in Las Cruces for a few days. Got it done, insisted she take a small amount of payment.
In the course of that she told me that the deepest underground/underwater cave in the US is here at this ranch (of which the campground is part.) I can’t go see the caverns, but she told me about this video and I went to find it.
Pictures of the campground and of the springs and Balmorhea, itself.
