Biking, hiking, no bears
According to my plan, I drove to an unpopulated trailhead and jumped on the bike. From this method of transport I was able to enjoy riding along the paved bike lanes that mostly parallel the road.
Bonus that I could get into the crowded visitor centers and a couple of the most popular lake access and trail heads. Got maps, studied trails, sought advice.
Also took a couple of off-shoot bike trails into historic exhibits.
