A nibble at Jan’s favorite eatery next door to the hotel and crash for the night after a very long day. Next morning this is home.
The jams are banana (!) and orange—but not a marmalade because no peels. The view of the river is from the front of the hotel.
Organized a private long boat to take us up the Mekong River to the Buddha Cave, which is a big deal around here.
The views out the window were incredible, the way people live and farm and fish. Makes you want to stay.
Arriving at the Buddha cave at the same time as a “boatload of monks.”
Inside the Buddha Cave - Pak Ou cave. There are a very large number of Buddhas in here, to put it mildly.
We visited a small Lao village on the way back. Check out the rice whiskey with that terrifying bug in it!
Off to dinner and a little night market shopping. At dinner, an American guy sat at the table next to us. We got to chatting, found we’re on sort of the same trip (his will be longer) and that we were sympatico. We’ve been traveling with him ever since. I’ll find a picture with him.
